Alto, soprano, bass are all voices when one refers to music. In grammar, both English and Latin, the voice of a verb refers to whether the verb is active or passive. An active voice verb has the subject doing the action. (The boy read a book) A passive voice verb has the subject receiving the action. ( The book is read by the boy) and the one doing the action then becomes the agent of the verb.
